Indoor Pet Activities: Keep Dogs and Cats Entertained During Cold Weather
It’s cold outside! While we recommend walking dogs most days of the year, ice or other hazardous conditions can make walking unsafe. So, how do we keep these energetic dogs entertained during inclement weather? And what about cats? Just like us, our pets’ mental health relies on physical activity. Here are a few indoor pet activities your pet will love!
With a bit of creativity, keeping our furry friends entertained can be both possible and fun for everyone involved! Puzzle toys are a fantastic option for both dogs and cats. These toys are designed to hide treats or even full meals, encouraging pets to use their brains to extract the goodies. In fact, cats and dogs can be fed exclusively using these toys, which can also be hidden around the house to add an extra layer of excitement.
Indoor pet activities for your dog:
For dogs, we suggest 15 to 20 minutes of simple training indoors when it’s too cold to go outside. Training exercises are great for their mental and physical health—even in good weather! For example, I often ask my dogs to sit and stay while I pretend to open the door to talk to someone, step into another room, or even jump up and down to test their patience. They love the treat rewards and find it worth the challenge! For more ideas, check out: https://www.akc.org/expert-
