Treating each and every pet as if they were our own.

At Skaer Veterinary Clinic, pet care isn’t just our job. It’s our passion that inspires us to work harder and deliver the best possible outcomes we can each day.

Skaer Veterinary Clinic is thrilled to be AAHA (American Animal Hospital Association) Certified for over 30 years, this distinction is earned by only 15% of veterinary hospitals nationally.

We are a Gold Cat Friendly Practice. We prioritize felines with separate exam rooms, pre-emptive medications and keeping their owner close by whenever possible.

We utilize Fear Free Best Practices, which facilitates a low-stress environment for pets and allows them to receive gentle and low-impact care, even if they’re prone to nervousness in new environments.

We’d love for you to visit us firsthand to learn what all the excitement is about! From all of us at Skaer Veterinary Clinic, thank you for choosing us when you need pet care you can trust!

A note from our founders.

We invite you to read the following letter from our founder, William Skaer.

In 1971, after completing a tour of duty as a Captain in the Air Force, Dr. Christen’s mother, Vicki, and I established Skaer Veterinary Clinic in Wichita Kansas. Our focus was on providing quality, caring veterinary medicine for pets. Our motto was, “We treat your pets like family”. Our strength was that we were always honest with our clients and compassionate with their pets. In 2001, we built a larger, modern, state of the art veterinary clinic at 404 S Edgemoor, Wichita, KS.

I want to give a special thanks to all of our clients, and their four-legged family members, for making our practice successful over these many years.

– William Skaer, DVM

We also invite you to read the following letter from Dr. Christen Skaer, who has since taken over Skaer Veterinary Clinic.

My father, William (Bill) Skaer, started this practice 50-years ago in order to provide your family the very highest level of veterinary care. I grew up in this practice with my father. You will notice that this team is like a family. This is because this practice is an extension of my family. It is a personal mission of mine to transfer my knowledge and history in this most honorable of all professions, on to the next generation the way my father instilled them in me from the day of my birth. Our inter-generational hospital provides a unique opportunity for teaching and learning.

This sense of community is why we have clients who have trusted us with their pets for close to 50 years. Thank you for allowing us the opportunity to care for your four-legged family members to make sure that each of your pets are treated as well as we treat our own pets. In fact, our first mission statement said, “We treat your pets like family.”  Your pets’ care is a trust that is taken very seriously by each one of our team members. We strive to hold each other to the highest standards. The veterinarians and team members that I hire are only those individuals who embody the standards that my family has cared about for decades. This is because you are a part of our family too!

– Dr. Christen Skaer
