More about Christen Skaer
Dr. Skaer earned a master’s degree in environmental studies from Friends University and holds a Doctorate of Veterinary Medicine from Kansas State University (1999). She also holds a certificate in Veterinary Homeland Security from Purdue University.
Dr. Skaer was born the month before her father graduated from KSU College of Veterinary Medicine in 1969, so she’s been in the veterinary profession her entire life. She clearly remembers following her dad while he helped open Wichita’s first veterinary emergency hospital. Her first job was working kennels for her dad, and she worked her way up to a veterinary assistant when she was approximately 17 years old. Shadowing her dad and watching his relationship with other vets in town helped mold the type of veterinarian she is today. She graduated from KSU in 1999 and purchased her practice from her dad in 2010.
Dr. Skaer and her husband, Luke, love spending time with their cats and dogs. They love kayaking, hiking, and spending time with their families. They have been on a journey to learn Spanish for 6 years and love connecting with the Hispanic community in town — it’s a great way to get outside of their little world!
