Hospice Care

Pet Hospice Care in Wichita, KS

The final chapter of a pet’s life is one of the hardest things a family ever walks through. Hospice care exists to make that time as gentle as possible — for your pet and for you. The focus shifts away from curative treatment and toward comfort, dignity, and quality of life, with a plan built around what your individual pet needs day to day.

At Skaer Veterinary Clinic, we provide compassionate pet hospice and end-of-life care for dogs and cats from Wichita, Derby, Bel Aire, Park City, Maize, Haysville, Schulte, and Oatville. That includes pain and symptom management, honest guidance about what to expect, in-home euthanasia options through trusted partners, and the time and space you need to make decisions without pressure.

Comfort, Dignity, and Support — When It Matters Most

This is one of the most difficult things a pet owner goes through. Knowing that your beloved animal is nearing the end of their life brings a kind of grief that’s hard to describe — and it also brings a set of questions and decisions that feel overwhelming.

We’re here to walk through it with you.

Our hospice care service is built entirely around one goal: keeping your pet comfortable, loved, and at peace for the time they have left — and when the time comes, ensuring their passing is calm and dignified.

What We Offer

Hospice care looks different for every pet and every family. Here’s what we can put in place when you need it.

A personalised comfort plan

Every hospice care journey is different. We create an individual plan based on your pet’s condition, their personality, and what matters most to them — and to you. Comfort and quality of life guide every decision, not curative treatment.

Pain and symptom management

Keeping your pet free from pain is the priority. We’ll work to manage any discomfort, breathing difficulties, nausea, or other symptoms that are affecting their quality of life.

Home visits

Some pets are more at ease at home. We collaborate with our trusted home euthanasia partner, Tender Heart Veterinary, who focuses exclusively on gentle, in-home euthanasia, allowing your pet to remain in the familiar comfort of home for their care and, when the time comes, for their passing.

Guidance and education

We’ll explain what you’re likely to see as your pet’s condition progresses — so you’re not caught off guard, and so you can recognise signs that they’re uncomfortable and need more support.

Euthanasia — peaceful, dignified, on your timeline

When the time comes, we’re here. Euthanasia is performed gently, with care and compassion, at a time of your choosing. We want that moment to be as peaceful as possible for your pet — and for you.

Grief support

Losing a pet is a real loss. We understand that, and we’re not in a rush. We’ll give you time, answer your questions, and point you toward support resources if you’d like them.

How Do I Know When It's Time?

This is the hardest question. There’s no single right answer, and we’ll never pressure you in either direction.

Our hospice care service is dedicated to maintaining the absolute comfort of terminally ill or geriatric pets. This style of care involves a totally individualized plan for your dog or cat and includes all the education and counselling you may need during this difficult time.

Helpful Resources

One tool that many families find helpful is a structured quality-of-life scale — a way to evaluate your pet’s experience across pain, appetite, mobility, hygiene, and happiness. The team below offers a well-known resource and gentle, in-home support.

Tender Heart Veterinary

We proudly recommend Dr. Rebecca Linot of Tender Heart Veterinary for compassionate, in-home euthanasia services. Her locally owned practice provides gentle, respectful end-of-life care, allowing pets to remain in the comfort and familiarity of their own home during this difficult time.
