Independently Owned

What It Means to Be Independent

There's a reason so many Wichita families have brought their pets to us for decades. It's not the location or the hours (though those help). It's something harder to define — the sense that when you walk in, the people here actually care about your pet as an individual.

That's what being an independent, family-owned practice makes possible.

We're proud to be an independent, family-owned veterinary practice, serving our community for over 55 years. Remaining locally owned allows us to provide personalized, compassionate care for every pet and family.

What Independence Means for Your Pet

Locally Owned. Family Run. Community Focused. We've been independent for over 55 years — and we intend to keep it that way.

Decisions based on your pet's needs — not a corporate agenda

We're not owned by a private equity firm or a large veterinary corporation. The medical decisions we make are driven by what's best for your pet — not by protocols handed down from a head office somewhere.

Continuity of care

When you come to Skaer, you see the same team, with the same values, time after time. The vets who see your pet today will know their history, their personality, and their quirks.

Investment in the right things

Being independent means we choose where to invest — and we invest in the best technology, the best training, and the best working environment for our team.

Supporting the local economy

Every dollar you spend with us stays in Wichita. We're proud of that.

A great team, genuinely looked after

We believe that happy, supported people provide the best care. We work hard to make Skaer a place where great vets and technicians want to build their careers.

Part of the Wichita Community

We're not just a business in Wichita — we're part of it. Our roots here go back to 1971. We've watched families grow, welcomed new pets, said difficult goodbyes, and been there for everything in between. We serve pets and families from across the Wichita area, including Derby, Bel Aire, Park City, Maize, Haysville, Schulte, and Oatville. And we take that role in the community seriously.
